Copiapó is a city and commune of Chile, capital of the homonymous province and the Atacama Region, with its origins from mining tradition. It is known to be an oasis where the desert blooms and also for possessing in its valley the first export of grapes in the country , which brings great benefits to the area.

The municipality covers an area of ??16,681.3 km2 , being, along with Antofagasta and Natales , one of the three Chilean municipalities that completely cross the country from east to west. The city is located at an average altitude of 391 meters. Along with Caldera and Tierra Amarilla , Copiapó Province form .

The municipality bounded on the northwest by the town of Caldera, north with the communes of Chañaral and Diego de Almagro, to the south, and Vallenar Guasco , on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the east by the Argentine provinces of La Rioja and Catamarca .
