Nevado Tres Cruces National Park

Nevado Tres Cruces National Park is a national park located in the III Region of Atacama. The two areas where the park is divided , are embedded between the ridges and Claudio Gay Domeyko . From any of them you can appreciate the high concentration of peaks existing at the site , being the Ojos del Salado, the more attractive the highest volcano in the world with 6,879 meters above sea level . The park was conceived as such in order to protect the high Andean ecosystem and its poor , but interesting flora and fauna. The north sector consists mainly of the Salar de Maricunga and Santa Rosa Laguna . The south is higher and the Black Lagoon Francisco covers much of its territory.

Flora
Being in the desert highlands , the vegetation is sparse . In places where water emerges on the banks of the lakes , there are some meadows and wetlands where vegetation density reaches a bit , here are mainly grasses and coirones . In arid slopes can see grasses that serve as food for animals.

Wildlife
The birds make up much of the park’s wildlife and including flamenco is the most noteworthy , inhabiting three of the six existing species in the world : the Andean flamingo , Chilean and James or Puna , the latter two being characteristic Altiplano . Among the other birds of the place are the petrel , the Andean Goose and Duck juarjual . Among mammals can be observed deguanacos groups and vicuna.

Attractions
Salar de Maricunga : is the southernmost Chilean salar concentrated and where part of the park’s wildlife
Laguna Santa Rosa : place of great scenic beauty , located 3,700 meters
Black Lagoon Francisco : separated into two portions of different colored lagoon.

Access
Terrestrial : from Copiapo by way Paipote by paved road . After 25 km, take the detour to the right on 54 kmconduce to the bifurcation into the oasis La Puerta, take this direction to get 75 miles to the park nursery in Santa Rosa Laguna sector.
Towards the Black Lagoon industry Francisco take road into the park, 60 km of land leads to the nursery industry . This route is not recommended in winter.
